While we have all surely hear of the Salem Witch Trials, we may not all have hear of the European Werewolf Trials. From the 15th Century through the 17th century there were cases where people were put on trial becasue they were thought to be werewolves. This was mostly fueled by superstion and religious beliefs.

Greek Mythology

In Greek Mythology, we have the Legend of Lycaon. This legend claims that Lycaon, the son of Pelasgus, fed Zeus a meal made from the remains of a young boy. Zeus was outraged and turned Lycaon and his sons into wolves.

Peter Stubbe

In the 16th century, Peter Stubbe was accused of killing citizens in the town of Bedburg, Germany. It was said that at night Stubbe would turn into a wolf-like creature and kill animals, men, women, and even children. Before being executed, Stubbe claimed that he owned an enchanted belt that would allow him to transform into a werewolf whenever he wanted.
